Don’t judge your journey

You can see everyone else's outsides, but you're the only person who can see what's going on inside of you.

I call this the visibility trap — and it's the source of a great deal of misery in our world.

This visibility trap leaves you with the mistaken perception that you are the only one who is having a hard time, struggling with the ups and downs of the human experience. Everyone else seems fine on the outside, don’t they? This makes you feel even more isolated and alone, kicking off a devastating spiral that can be so hard to get out of.

What we need to remember is that we aren't alone. Everyone is going through something — everywhere, all around you, there are people who are dealing with challenges, battling fear and loneliness, worrying that they’re not good enough, coping with heartbreaks and traumas, and trying the very best to figure out life.

The next time you feel yourself getting caught in the visibility trap, use this phrase: "I can’t see it on the outside, but I know that I’m not the only one who feels this way on the inside.”
