Kindness matters

When you're in pain, being unkind to yourself is not helpful: in fact, studies have found that when you are self-critical, you increase your stress.

What does help? Being kind to yourself. Be gentle, be generous, be loving, be patient, be compassionate, be forgiving. That's what you need when you're in pain.

The same is true for others, too. When other people are suffering, start to see it as a sign that they need your kindness.

We have the power to create a world where everyone heals—and we do that by building a world where everyone is kind.
