Weekly: Follow the feeling

Old Happy: "I should do what is expected."
New Happy: "I need to do what feels right for me."

There are so many expectations hanging over us: be this way, do that thing, look like that, achieve that goal, do it by this very specific time... on and on the list goes, never ending and if we're honest with ourselves, utterly impossible to satisfy.

Making choices to fulfill these external expectations can lead to a sense of hollowness, frustration, loneliness, disconnection, and self-judgment.

Here's a different approach to try.

The next time you are making a small decision, pause before you look outwardly and instead, turn inward. Identify which option feels best in your body. Look for warmth, peace, stability, hope, or energy. Then: follow it.

Your feelings are here to help you, to guide you towards the pathways that best serve you. Therefore, the more that you start to notice them, listen to them, and act in alignment with them, the more your life will change to feel more like your own. Learning to ask ourselves what it is that our authentic selves really want is a skill that can help us to unlock our joy, creativity, wonder, courage, and so much more.
