Remember your strength

Here is a four step process to help you face your fears.

First, identify them. In this moment, what are you feeling afraid of? Pause and bring it to mind, if you can. You might have more than one fear, and that's okay, too. Observe all of those what ifs. Count your worries like sheep: there's the first one, there's the second, there's the third... observing it from a distance, until you've run through all of them.

Second, offer yourself compassion: "It's normal to be afraid when I'm doing something hard, or trying something new, or stretching myself in some way. My fear is a part of me, and it's trying to keep me safe. Everyone feels this way."

Third, think back to the past, to a time where you chose to courageously face your fear. Bring those moments to mind. Observe all of those I did thats. Count your courage like celebrations: there's the time I took a leap, there's the time I said no, there's the moment I said yes...

Finally, take a deep breath, and say to yourself:

"Yes, my fears could could happen.
But in the unlikely chance that they do, I know that I can handle them. Because I've handled many challenging moments like that before.
I've gotten through everything that's happened to me.
I was scared, I stumbled, I struggled.
But I got through it.
And I can get through this, too."

Remembering what you have overcome is a powerful source of resilience. Don't be afraid to remind yourself of your victories whenever you need to.
