Three questions
One of the complicated things about being a human is that we are constantly navigating, negotiating, and integrating who we once were, who we are today, and who we are becoming. How we relate to our past, present and future selves is an essential element of overall happiness.
There are three questions that you can ask yourself to improve those relationships.
Past: "How might I forgive myself for the past?"
Whatever mistakes you made, you were doing the very best you could at the time. Holding onto self-judgment only harms your present self. When we forgive, we are actually more likely to learn from those mistakes and experience better mental and emotional well-being.
Present: "How might I accept myself?"
Self-acceptance means recognizing that you are enough, exactly as you are in this moment. You do not have to earn or achieve anything to be worthy.
Future: "How might I envision who I want to be in the future?"
In imagining your future self, you can consciously evolve as a person, cultivate the best parts of you, and increase your hope and resilience to help you make that vision a reality.
