Transform your next action

The same action can be experienced in two very different ways.

I'm sure you've experienced this many times:

A loved one is sick. You go to the pharmacy and the grocery store, picking up medicine, comforting foods, and a little card to cheer them up. In the moment, you're completely focused on what they need and how you can help. You're filled with purpose.

Now, compare that to all of the times that you've gone to the pharmacy or the grocery store without a greater purpose. It was a chore. A drag. The last thing you wanted to do in that moment.

That's the difference between viewing something as a burden and viewing it as an act of love.

Every action can be an act of love — if we connect it to the ways it's helping another person. This mental shift turns it into an act of service. That's what  The New Happy philosophy  is all about: being yourself in service of the world around you.

Today, try turning a regular act into an act of love.

Here are a few ideas to get you started.

  1. As you send an email, consider how you might include a kind word or compliment that makes the reader feel a bit brighter.

  2. As you cook meals, think about how your food will nurture and support your family's well-being.

  3. As you talk to a colleague, reflect on how you might help lighten their workload a little bit easier today.

  4. As you wash the dishes or clean up, think about how your tidy home brings your loved ones safety, peace and comfort.

  5. When you ask your partner or friend about their day, seek to give them your full attention and care.

Today, I hope you know the joy of turning a regular act into a loving one.
