Your role in life

The real reason we need to fully inhabit our experiences is because that's how we learn from them. Many of our most important life lessons, the ones that change a person forever, take years of inhabiting to fully settle in our bones. When we try to express their depth to someone else, it doesn't really work because they didn't go through that deep, transformative experience. Don't miss these opportunities for growth.

Try This
It's helpful to start practicing inhabiting your experiences with the small challenges. It's like building a muscle that you can then draw upon for the bigger moments.

Try it the next time you face a minor inconveniences, like hitting a traffic jam or breaking a glass or forgetting something at the store. Pause and say to yourself: "Life is giving me this experience." Remember that, no matter the inconvenience, you're still alive to receive it; you're resourceful enough to do something with it; you're capable of meeting it in the next moment.

Then, say to yourself: "I'm going to inhabit this experience, for the next moment." How does it affect you? You will likely feel a decrease in self-judgment and an increase in agency, a sense that it's okay and that you can take the next step forward.
