How to cope in hard times
In tough times, difficult circumstances, and challenging moments, it’s easy to get fixated on the future. Questions like, “How is this going to be okay?” or “When will this end?” or “What will my future look like now that this has happened?” can become pervasive, overwhelming and painful.
One antidote is to gently pull your awareness from thinking about the future and its unknowable nature, and instead, just focus on the day. This day. And if that feels too big, you can shrink it to this hour, or to this minute. You don’t have to ‘figure out your future’ right now. You don’t have to know how you’ll cope with a challenge that might come some day down the road. You don’t have to think about a plan for how to solve it all.
This shift in focus allows us to feel whatever we’re feeling and honor our experience as it unfolds — as well as helping us to persevere through the hard moments. By bringing ourselves back to the present moment, we are equipping ourselves with what we need to get through the challenging moment. It helps you to tap into your innate courage, compassion, and creativity that will support and sustain you.
