Weekly: The power of your words
Old Happy: I need to judge myself more and more.
New Happy: I need to love myself more and more.
Think back to the last time that you complimented someone. How did they physically respond to your words? I'd imagine that their eyes lit up, their face broke into a shining smile, they stood a bit taller, and they were filled with a palpable sense of energy.
Now, think about the last time that you saw someone hurt by another's words. It's the exact opposite: their eyes go flat, their face falls, and they shrink down, deep into themselves. They have been crushed.
When you speak to yourself, you might not be able to see these physical reactions to kindness or to cruelty—but, rest assured, they are happening within you. Bit by bit, you could be diminishing yourself with your words—without even knowing it. And this serves absolutely no one. It's your expanded self that can bring you joy and well-being, that is capable of creating strong relationships with others, that is able to do the most good in the world. True service to others is best delivered by a self that knows their worth.
You can start to change the way that you speak to yourself, right here and now, with these five New Happy affirmations:
I have so much to share with the world. I do not need to do more and more. I deserve love and compassion. I am here to be my biggest self. I am enough, exactly as I am.
