Newsletter: Take the leap
A quality that's so underrated? The willingness to try.
In our Old Happy culture that celebrates perfection and finality, we're wrongly taught it's not cool to be seen trying. But I think trying is the coolest thing out there. Here's to everyone who is waking up today, committed to doing something — trying new things, trying again, trying a new way, trying even when it's embarrassing, and trying after falling down. You're my heroes.
Let's keep trying,
Stephanie Harrison, founder of The New Happy
This Week
Here's why you should try that thing you really want to do.
Studies have found that we regret the things that we don't do the most. And if we try something and it doesn't work, we are remarkably good at adapting to the situation, learning from it, and turning it into a source of meaning.
Some of the happiest people I know are those who are not self-conscious about trying new things; some of the most frustrated people I know don't let themselves try the things they really want to do.
Try This
To help yourself make the leap, ask yourself these questions:
How long are you willing to wait to do the things you really want to do?
What's the best that can happen?
How might this leap help you to achieve your bigger goals?
Who can you call on to cheer you on?
