People often ask me, "Why did you start The New Happy?" The answer is simple: because I was deeply unhappy. No matter what I did, happiness always seemed just out of reach. I desperately wanted to know the answer—the secret, the path I was meant to follow.
So, I set out on a quest. It wasn’t a journey to faraway places but one that took place in libraries. I pored over thousands of texts from every field of study—psychology, religion, ethics, art—seeking to uncover what truly leads to happiness. As I sifted through this vast array of knowledge, two concepts kept emerging, again and again. They appeared in the biographies of people I admired, the stories we collectively cherish, and the wisdom of our greatest thinkers.
Eventually, I realized these two concepts are the pillars of happiness:
Discover who you truly are.
Use it to help others.
Living in this way brings you a profound form of happiness: a sense of purpose coupled with feelings of daily joy; endless motivation co-existing with contentment; resilience that supports you during setbacks; determination that imbues you with courage; an experience that brings you closer to yourself, to others, and to the world all at the same time.
But it’s not just a path to your happiness; it’s the path to our happiness. When you embody these two pillars, you not only transform your own life but also contribute to the lives of those around you. You help others; they are then able to help other others; these others are then equipped to help still further others.
This cascade of goodness doesn’t require permission, qualifications, or perfect conditions. It’s something you can kickstart right now, with a single intentional choice. Pause and ask yourself: What can I do today to be more of myself and to help others? That's your task—and that's your path to happiness.
