How to overcome self-doubt

Confidence grows when you ask for help. Doubt shrinks when you ask for help.

When you’re doing something new or scary, it’s normal to feel afraid, self-doubting, and unsure of yourself. It’s a completely natural reaction to going outside of your comfort zone! Fear and courage go hand-in-hand.

But you don’t have to face that fear alone. One of the greatest ways to navigate these moments is to ask for help.

Your friends and loved ones see you for who you are (often more accurately than you see yourself!) and all that you have to offer the world. They see your capabilities and your competence. Let them know that you need a bit of a boost to get through this moment. It can be as simple as saying “I’ve got this [scary exciting thing] ahead of me and I’m a bit nervous about it. Could you give me a little pep talk?”

We can also think about to do this for the ones we love.

Who in your life is doing something new — embarking upon a new role in life, starting a new job, or facing a new challenge? How wonderful it would be for them if you reached out and proactively told them how much you believe in them.

In coming together, we can grow as individuals.
