This problem doesn’t define you
If you’re facing a challenge right now, remember these three things:
1) First, the challenge is not the only thing in your life, even if at times it feels like it is. Consciously look up and to the other parts of your life. They can give you strength, support, and confidence to take the next step forward.
2) Second, remind yourself: it isn’t going to last forever. When things feel really hard, use a mantra like this: “This is just a part of my current experience.” This will pass, even if it doesn’t feel like that right now.
3) And third, it doesn’t define you as a person. You are so much more than whatever it is that you’re facing. You are bigger than any problem in your life. It is not you, and you are not it. Creating this distance matters for your well-being, resilience, and ability to address the challenges.
